I once had tea with Robert Smith & The Cure in Vanbrugh canteen when they played Central Hall and I worked the gig. It was the birthday of one of the band's road crew and Robert Smith presented him with a card and a bottle of wine that he'd bought that day. Mr Smith had beans on toast! The gig featured most of the songs from The Cure's first album from what I recall.
from Dave C., who have send the setlist picture shown above
I met the band, getting on very well with Lol, driving from my home in Derby to the gig and then back home again, exhausted!! The band gave me this (Ed.: the setlist) and signed some records.
It was surely given to me in 1980 and was certainly at York Uni, as that is the only place I ever saw and thereafter met them. I got on very well with Lol and one of their Roadies, Al (who also signed my records on the night!).
It could've been earlier in the year, but unlikely as I recall driving up from my home in Derby in darkening skies, seeing my friends Moz and Dob, who were studying Politics at York, then driving back home exhausted - in fact, I fell asleep at the wheel of my Mini on the M1 motorway, swerved considerably and was lucky not to crash on the stretch next to Bolsover Colliery, between Rotherham & Chesterfield!! My guts tell me it was November 1980, but I have no evidence to prove it.
